As we get ready to start the new academic year, many parents will opt, as they may have always been, to consider renewing their commitments with their home tutor. If you are like many parents who used home tutoring services before, you will surely agree that home tutoring is not a cost-effective option.
An average home tutor charges between 180 AED – 250 AED per hour, which is equivalent or more expensive than what education centers charge for the same service. So if you think that home tutoring is a cost-effective option, you better think again. But the high cost is by far not the only disadvantage for procuring the services of home tutors, but it is the quality of the service they deliver. And here is why:
- Most students fall behind in school for many reasons and when you look deeper, you find that gaps in understanding certain topics or concepts are at the core of why students are scoring less on quizzes and exams than their classmates. But unless you’re able to pinpoint the gaps with a great deal of accuracy, any attempt to teach the student their current topics will end-up being no different than using a band-aid on an open wound! Because not all students learn at the same speed, having the ability to measure progress from a given starting point, and then adjust speed as required will allow for maximum benefit for the student. But like the diagnostic testing, only specialized centers will have the required tools and expertise to administer such progress assessments. Furthermore, These assessments are usually independent in nature and leverage third-party tools which are administered by an education administrator and not by the teachers themselves. Without being on the receiving end of such critical report about the education journey of our children, most parents find themselves in the dark throughout the academic year.
in conclusion, making the right choices when it comes to our children’s education support is paramount, as these choices end-up shaping their overall perception and inclination towards school and towards the entire learning experience. The learning window during the first twelve years of school (K-12) is indeed short but too critical to be left between inexperienced hands.
